Durham Dales Classic Trial May 28th 2017 (Organised by Middle England CVC)

Durham Dales Classic trial welcomes all competitors, from seasoned experts to total beginners and anyone in between. This will be the 4th year of running a successful trial, and our goal is still to give all competitors a low cost, well run and fun trial.

All the usual classes of car and bike PLUS class X are invited to compete!

History

Durham Dales Classic Trial was the brain child of Bernie ‘MADDOG’ Pugh. It first ran in 2014. It was only supposed to be a ‘one off’ but was so well received by competitors that with the help of dedicated individuals, we have decided to keep running it.

We have seen competitors from Dorset to the Highlands of Scotland, who have shown us that there is a dedication to Classic Trial that we simply can’t forget.

The history of the Trial may be short but every year we add some more.

Each trial we run adds to our reputation and moves us forward to produce an epic Classic Trial year after year.

COME AND BE PART OF OUR HISTORY!”

The adjoining café will be open for food and drink for the duration of the event, whilst fuel is available nearby.

As in previous years we will be running a raffle in aid of the Air Ambulance and Prostate Cancer, these charities are very dear to the hearts of our landowners and by making donations to these charities greatly helps us to obtain permissions to use our sections and farm tracks.

Class 0 :- to cater for those preferring not to tackle the more difficult sections there will be an open car & closed car classes.

“We invite you to this years Presidents Trial, held in Bonyalva Woods near Hessenford, just off the A38 near Castle Motors.

Primed and ready for action. Class 8 Restart ??

Bit of work to do here still !

The event will be held on Sunday 2nd April, in a nice gap in the calendar, 3 weeks after the Torbay and 2 weeks before the Lands End. Please come and support.

We are planning to run between 17 and 20 different sections, some old classics and between 2 and 4 “new” sections uncovered from beneath the brambles!

There’s a section in here somewhere!

Lots of work has been done in the woods and we have sorted some extra space in a clearing in the woods for off-road parking of trailers. Also we have permission to park trailers at Castle Motors, so for anyone with a road-legal trials car please park your trailer there and then drive 1.5 miles down to the woods.

As last year, results will be announced immediately after the event at The Copley Arms, Hessenford, which is just half a mile away. Good food so please consider staying on after the event. We hope to see you all there!”

2017 March Hare Trial Cancelled

Late news (as the event was meant to run last Sunday) –

“It is with regret and sadness that Falcon M.C, announces the cancellation of the 2017 March Hare Classic Trial. Disappointingly, we have received a a low number of entries for this event. In addition, following storm Doris and despite sterling efforts by individual club members, there is still much work to do to prepare the route for the event. The effort needed we feel is disproportionate to the number of cars taking part and in essence makes the event non viable.

We appreciate your entry, support and your commitment to the March Hare Classic Trial and pledge to offer you an attractive and challenging event in 2018. In the meantime, please do consider entering our Ivinghoe Spring Trial and do look out for our regular events throughout the Competition Year.

Again, our apologies for the late cancellation and we look forward to welcoming you again on an event in the near future.”

2017 Cotswold Clouds Trial Results

Here are the final results for the 2017 Cotswold Clouds Trial.

Overall winner was Dean Partington (Class 8).

2017 Cotswold Clouds Trial Results

Report from the organising team below.

Congratulations to Dean Partington on winning the Cotswold Clouds 2017

Fortunately for us the weather cleared up on Saturday and we had a rare fine day to finish off setting out the Trial. More rain overnight, but Sunday turned out moistly dry, if a bit foggy in areas. This meant that the ground conditions on the day were about as slippery as I have experienced on a Cotswold Clouds. This caused some considerable head scratching on my part, as it meant it was always going to be a tough event for everyone, and with my mind set on trying to give as many Classes as possible a decent crack at the Overall trophy, it was going to be a particularly challenging day for Class 8.

Not withstanding the unstoppable force that was Dean Partington, and Matt Facey’s big clanger on Jerry’s, the results vindicate the effort that was put in by the Team on preparing a Trial that gave every Class a good chance of the Silver Jubilee Cup for the overall win. A big thank you to all the marshals who turned out for the day and helped us run the trial. Last, but by no means least, I apologise for the very badly set out Pheasant’s Run Test, there are reasons for this oversight, but they do not excuse the fact that it should not have happened.

We hope you enjoyed your day’s sport , and we look forward to seeing you next year.

Carl Talbot [Clerk of the Course] and the organising Team”

2017 Camel Heights Trial Entry Pack

“Here are the regs for the Camel Heights Trial to be held on 5th March in Dunmere Wood near Bodmin. This is an excellent single venue event with challenging, slippery forest sections. Not The Ebworth 2017 Regs Now Available

Entries are now open for the 2017 Not The Ebworth Trial, running on Saturday 4th March.

2017 “Not The Ebworth” Entry Pack

“Stroud and District Motor Club would like to invite you to the 4th Not The Ebworth Classic Trial, set in the glorious surrounding of Harcombe Farm, Syde, GL53 9PN.

Trials have been held at Harcombe Farm since 1946. The event will feature at least 8 sections, attempted on 3 or more rounds & maybe 1 special test, if necessary. We will be running the classes in classic 1-8 format, but the sections will be mostly of the PCT type, with a combination of field and wood. Competitors will run in class order. This offers competitors in each class similar conditions on sections.

At the request of the National Trust, 2016 saw the final event in Ebworth woods. In slippery conditions that tested drivers and organisers alike, Joshua Moss emerged as the overall winner.

What better way to spend a Saturday in March than join us, either as a competitor or as a marshal. We look forward to seeing you for what should be an enjoyable event.”

2017 Clee Hills Trial Results

Midland Automobile Club LogoHere are the final results for the 2017 Clee Hills Trial. Notes from the organisers :

“You will find that the scores do not add across, because we operate a system called ‘score relieving’. On three of the toughest hills tackled by all (Priors Holt 1, Flounders Folly, Easthope), the score for the highest climber in Class is considered to be the ‘End’ and all other scores in the class are reduced. Thus Dean Partington was the highest climber on Flounders Folly so his 2 is reduced to zero and all the others in his class have 2 marks deducted from their score. Dave Jackson’s 7 gets reduced to 5.

Hence, if you total across the columns these three hills appear twice – once with the actual score, and one with the relieved score which is the one included in the total.

We hope you all had a good days sport, and will be back next year. We operate a system of continuous improvement, and would therefore appreciate any feedback you have.”

Overall winners were Adrian Marfell (Class 6) and Roger Ashby (Class A).

Hardy Trial to be “Rested”

“As Secretary of Woolbridge Motor Club Ltd I am writing to inform you of the decision by the Woolbridge committee to ‘rest’ the Hardy Trial in 2017, we will review the situation in 2018 but I have to say that there will need to be some big changes for it to reappear.

We have not taken this decision lightly but due to the permanent loss of one of our main venues, the ongoing difficulties with running classic trials in Dorset, the very small number of club members actually competing in classic trials, the ‘reaction’ of a minority of some experienced competitors on the 2016 event and the lack of organisers we believe this to be the only appropriate way forward.

As the present CofC and many of us on the committee have put a lot of effort into this event since the late 70’s we are sad to see it go but prefer to take this decision rather than put on a second rate event, I personally went through hell to get the event accepted into the ACTC championship so am particularly saddened but recognise when decisions have to be made no matter how difficult. We have discussed making the Hardy a joint event with a neighbouring club but they are not interested in this suggestion so we think it best ‘rested’.

Entry levels have not improved and the Hardy was propped up by the large Bike entry this year (mainly local club riders not many ACTC competitors), this has been exacerbated by the compression and infilling of the calendar in the November / December period not helped by the moving of the Kyrle to sit next to our event (as supported by ACTC) and the working around Remembrance Sunday each year, Dorset and the club could never support a trial at any other time of year, we need the rain! I hope other events do not follow in our footsteps.

Woolbridge has well over 500 members, is financially very stable and organises some 30 + events every year but like many clubs the main work is done by the few. Unfortunately this doesn’t necessarily mean we can find people to do everything, especially when they receive adverse comments for their efforts when the event had to overcome the major loss of the one big venue which had developed into the star of the show in 2015.

Best Regards, Andy Webb

Woolbridge Motor Club Ltd Club Secretary”
